Senior Contaminated Land Remediation Consultant

OTEK is currently seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Scientist or Engineer with demonstrated Soil and Groundwater remediation and Project Management experience to join the Victorian team.

The successful candidate has the potential to lead the dedicated State remediation group, project manage and or provide technical direction on large soil and groundwater remediation projects; direct field works and provide technical guidance to junior staff. The role will involve technical direction of remediation projects, preparation of tenders and proposals, report writing, technical mentoring and training of junior staff.

The candidate should be able to produce client focused outcomes including the delivery of the projects on time, on spec and on budget. As a team player, both state based and nationally, the candidate’s personal attributes should include excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The successful candidate will have a tertiary qualification in Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science and at least 5 years direct remediation experience. Essential key criteria are a demonstrated history of remediation project management and technical direction with experience in the following areas:

  • Direct experience in some or all of the following remediation methods – Multi-Phase Extraction, Air Sparging, Soil Vapour Extraction, In-situ Chemical Injection (Oxidation/Reduction), Waste Water Treatment, Thermal Desorption, Bioremediation;
  • Remediation design including planning/scoping, investigation, pilot studies, equipment, installation, design standards;
  • Remediation management including data collection and evaluation, remediation validation, regulatory compliance;
  • Hydrogeologic investigation, assessment and evaluation;
  • High quality reporting and reviewing skills;
  • Contractor management for medium to large sized remediation projects with consideration to getting the best possible work/product, financial management and Health and Safety.
  • Good leadership and people management skills. A team player;
  • Experienced in managing Scope, Cost, Time and Quality; and
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) qualification is desirable, if not then be willing to undertake PMP qualification. 


This position is full time and permanent upon successful completion of a three month probationary period. An attractive salary package depending on qualifications and experience along with a flexible and friendly work environment will be offered to the successful candidate.

Principal Environmental Engineer or Scientist

The successful candidate should be able to produce client focussed outcomes including the delivery of the projects on time, on spec and on budget. As a team player, the candidate’s personal attributes should include excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

They will be professionally qualified with a Bachelor or Masters degree in Geology/Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science and be a member of a career relevant professional society. A minimum of 8 years experience in the Environmental Consulting Industry (Contaminated Land) with demonstrated business development and client service management experience and an established network of client and industry contacts are desirable.

Essential key criteria are:

  • Technical expertise (report review) and extensive experience working on large scale ($1,000,000 ) contaminated land investigation/assessment and site remediation projects;
  • The provision of high level technical environmental advice and regulatory liaison on a broad spectrum of issues;
  • Knowledge of Victorian and interstate legislation;
  • Demonstrated high quality reporting and reviewing skills;
  • Good leadership and people management skills;
  • A team player who will mentor junior employees;
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) qualification is desirable, if not then be willing to undertake PMP qualification; and
  • Excellent negotiation skills to manage Contractors and work with EPA Auditors.
